The latest round of low cost chip making is getting ready with an open source Z80 core and over two hundred other projects

Tiny Tapeout 7 (TT07) closes at 10pm CEST tomorrow (Saturday, June 1).

The scheme includes an implementation of an open source Z80 core now that the original chip has been discontinued.

The project has filled half of the 512 tiles so far, although the previous projects have seen significant last minute submissions. Projects include ADCs and DACs, RISC-V controller core, GPU and tensor unit (TPU).

“We’re down to the last few days for Tiny Tapeout 7. We have some great projects on board already, and there’s still time if you want to add something yourself,” said organiser Matt Venn.

The TT04 project is shipping right now and participants have already started receiving boards. “TT05 chips have been packaged and should be on the way to us shortly. We hope to get the production running shortly and should beat our predicted delivery date,” said Venn.
