Tiny, transient protection array handles 100 A surge
Tclamp1202P is the smallest low-cap, high-surge, 12V (Vrwm) transient voltage protection array in its class, makers Semtech asserts. The TClamp1202P offers 100A (8 x 20 µsec waveform) of surge immunity in an 2 x 2mm package. It can be used in a wide range of industrial and telecommunications applications for safeguarding sensitive communications transceivers from electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), cable discharge and lightning surge transients.
The two-line TClamp1202P has a very low clamping voltage and a line-to-line capacitance of less than 12 pF. The part’s robust 100A surge rating for high-surge lightning protection meets the industry’s most stringent telecommunications and industrial surge requirements. Additionally, the flow-through layout of the part enhances signal quality and design flexibility. These benefits make the TClamp1202P suitable for safeguarding the many RS-485 interfaces deployed in telecom and industrial applications such as wireless base stations and digital surveillance cameras.
Semtech’s TransClamp platform provides high surge immunity in very small packages. The high surge, low capacitance advantages are achieved with Semtech’s process technology, which optimises surge immunity and clamping voltage with significant reductions in leakage current and capacitance.
The device features transient protection for high-speed data lines to: IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±30 kV (air), ±30 kV (contact); IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) 40A (5/50 nsec); and IEC 61000-4-5 (lightning) 100A (8/20 μsec).
The array protects two I/O lines and exhibits low capacitance of <12 pF line-to-line.
