TMR analogue angle sensor for safety-related applications
The sensor enables precise angle measurements in applications where space is limited and high performance is required. The TAS4240 360° angle sensor is suitable for precisely measuring the rotor position of BLDC motors in safety-critical applications such as power steering, brake boosters or traction motors.
The sensor contains four TMR half-bridges and offers two separate sine and cosine outputs. This can increase the safety of the overall system according to ASIL D, while at the same time ensuring the availability of position information even if one of the sensor signals fails. Depending on the system architecture, fail-safe operational concepts are also supported by the sensor.
TDK’s TMR technology benefits from the company’s many years of experience in magnetic field sensor technology and the manufacture of microelectronic components. The sensor’s angular accuracy remains stable at different temperatures and over the sensor’s lifetime. The TAS4240’s clearly deterministic behaviour in the extended magnetic field range opens up new application possibilities – even in demanding environments.
Samples of the TAS4240 are available now. Production has started in April 2022.
