Some of the biggest deals in 2019 for power companies covered battery gigafactories and silicon carbide, which are in separate lists.

But some of the deals came through just ahead of the Christmas break. Rivian has raised over $2bn in the year for its electric truck, which will benefit its power design centre in Surrey, UK, while Wingtech completed its acquistionon Nexperia and its Manchester power fab. 

One of the biggest changes will be the restructuring of Siemens and spinning off a power giant and the Siemens Gamesa wind turbine joint venture. Gamesa, Vestas and GE are battling it out to supply the boom in off-shore wind farms across Europe, while Nexans is supplying medium and high voltage cables.

Electric vehicles are a key driver for deals, but 2019 also saw Dyson withdraw its development of an electric car, citing the failure to find a partner
