The IAR KickStart Kit embraces all hardware, software and development tools necessary to design embedded applications based on Toshiba’s new TMPM350FDFTG microcontroller. This ARM-based device has been designed particularly for electric power steering applications.

The TMPM350FDFTG runs at a clock speed of 88 MHz. It integrates an CRM Cortex-M3 CPU core, 512 kByte of embedded Nano Flash ROM and 48 kByte of RAM. The integrated dual-channel CAN controller and a sophisticated motor control unit minimize the need for external components. Several integrated Error Supervisors help to meet the requirements of ISO 26262. The result of all these building blocks is a single-chip solution for motor controls that meets all requirements of the ISO 26262 functional safety standards.

The IAR TMPM350FDFTG KickStart Kit contains an MCU evaluation board, IAR’s graphical visualState development environment and a limited edition of the IAR Embedded Workbench development environment (IDE) which targets ARM processors. A J-Link hardware debug probe connects to a host PC via USB and enables JTAG debugging according to ARM specs.

Besides the MCU the evaluation board offers a JTAG interface for programming and debugging and four programmable keys as well as eight LEDs, a potentiometer  that cats as analog input and two quartz oscillators.

IAR visualState enables designers to implement any complex reactive system by means of UML state machines – a feature very helpful for control logic based applications. In such a context, reliability, size and deterministic performance are the decisive criteria.

The TMPM350FDFTG offers functional safety according to ISO 26262 definitions in that it represents a decentralized safety architecture around a closely coupled error supervisor. This supervisor runs the algorithms that monitor the operation of all relevant MCU function blocks such as CPU, bus systems, timers and memory by means of so called faultRobust function blocks. An fRNET block collects diagnosis information from all functions, and Toshiba’s hardware diagnosis blocks (ThwD) offer an additional safety monitoring function. The IAR KickStart development kit contains all software necessary to initialize this integrated safety structure.
