Toyota bolsters its software ecosystem
The acquisition strengthens the Toyota subsidiary with high-calibre engineers whose expertise will help the team build a fully software-based vehicle infrastructure. Renovo’s experts also bring their platform and software to the collaboration. On their basis, a hardware-independent operating system can be created for future vehicle generations.
The acquisition of Renovo is another strategic step by Woven Planet to create its own software ecosystem around mobility. The functionalities to be developed are not limited to vehicles as such, but also extend to related areas such as driving, vehicle operating systems, mapping and smart city. Only in July, the Toyota subsidiary had acquired the American AI specialist Carmera. Carmera specialises in bringing next-generation intelligent road navigation to automated mobility on a large scale. The Carmera team will report to Woven Alpha’s Automated Mapping Platform (AMP) organisation. AMP is an open software platform that supports the creation, development and transmission of high-resolution maps – a key enabler for smart and safe automated mobility. As one of the two subsidiaries of Woven Planet Holding, Woven Alpha focuses on new business areas and innovative projects for automated driving.
Previously, Woven Planet had already acquired Level 5, the autonomous driving division of ride-hailing provider Lyft.
