Toyota further expands hydrogen ecosystem
Toyota is accelerating its path to hydrogen mobility: Together with the chemical company Air Liquide and the bus manufacturer Caetano, the carmaker is now developing integrated solutions, infrastructure and vehicle fleets in order to increasingly use the alternative drive technology in light and heavy commercial vehicles. With their partnership, the three companies plan to advance local hydrogen ecosystems for various mobility applications and contribute to the decarbonisation of transport.
The partners will use their complementary expertise to cover the entire hydrogen mobility value chain – from the production of “green” hydrogen to its distribution and refuelling infrastructure to its use in various vehicle segments. The initial focus is on buses, light commercial vehicles and passenger cars, with an expansion to heavy commercial vehicles planned in the future.
New hydrogen ecosystems throughout Europe are stimulating demand and facilitating access to hydrogen for other mobility applications. In addition to appropriate infrastructure and refuelling stations, integrated vehicle offers (leasing and service) for customers such as taxi companies, fleet operators and local authorities are important. By integrating different applications and projects in an ecosystem where supply and demand meet, a virtuous circle should be created that enables the further development of the entire hydrogen infrastructure.
“This partnership offers us the opportunity to drive the development of hydrogen clusters and to accelerate and intensify the use of hydrogen as a CO2-neutral solution for mobility. This will progressively reduce the cost of hydrogen and its infrastructure while improving the business case for many future applications, including mobility,” says Matt Harrison, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe.
