Toyota picks Mobileye, ZF for next-gen ADAS
At the heart of the agreement between Toyota and ZF is the use of ZF’s front camera, which in turn is equipped with technology from Intel company Mobileye. With the associated software, the system is capable of performing tasks such as computer vision and machine learning. In addition, the two companies offer technologies for lateral vehicle system control such as lane keeping and lane centering. This new relationship with Toyota, the world’s largest automaker, marks the first time ZF and Mobileye have been nominated for Toyota with their ADAS systems. In addition, ZF has been entrusted with the tasks of integrating the camera and radar into the vehicles. This order significantly expands the scope of Mobileye and ZF’s safety technology to improve safety and driver comfort features on the world’s roads, ZF said.
ZF and Mobileye will work closely together in this context to develop advanced camera technology that will be integrated with ZF radar technology to now power key driver assistance platforms in Toyota vehicles. Mobileye’s EyeQ4 is one of the most advanced application-based vision computing system-on-a-chips (SoC) available today. Combined with ZF’s Gen-21 mid-range radar technology, it can accurately interpret the environment of Toyota’s vehicles. Together, these technologies help avoid and mitigate collisions while providing lateral and longitudinal control of the vehicle.
The 77-GH mid-range Gen21 radar was developed by ZF to meet the Euro NCAP 5-star 2022+ safety rating and enable Level 2 and Level 2+ automated driving functions. It is scalable to the needs of vehicle manufacturers, providing both a wide field of view at low speeds to support pedestrian detection to support systems such as automatic emergency braking (AEB), and a wider field of coverage at high speeds for systems such as adaptive cruise control.
