In a press release, the company announced plans for further settings of the course, moving away from conventional lighting concepts and towards LED-type of products. In this context, the company also plans to establish production of LED modules at its Dornbirn facility. Currently, a first test production is under way. In addition, the company is about to put a new production test station which will enable Tridonic to perform all necessary pre-shipping measurements for outgoing luminaries. The test station has been developed in house and will significantly increase the throughput.

At the same time, the new Tridonic CEO Alfred Felder took over from Harald Sommerer who led the company on an interim basis after Walter Ziegler left the company early this year. Sommerer will continue in his role as CEO of Tridonic parent company Zumtobel Group. In a statement, Sommerer introduced Felder as an expert in LED and OLED technologies. He added that the company currently faces dramatic challenges resulting from the market changeover from conventional to LED lighting. The company’s LED business is growing but at the present point of time it is too small to compensate the losses suffered in conventional lighting.

Felder said that Tridonics’ future perspective lies in a change of the business model from a component vendor to an upmarket system solution vendor. He also announced that amidst growing globalizing trends the company will develop a concept to handle the Asian competition.
