Austrian smart glasses technology developer TriLite is showing an automotive application for its ultra-compact projection display.

Alongside live demonstrations of its augmented reality (AR) smart glasses, powered by Trixel 3, TrLite will also show free space projection technology, enabling dynamic projections on any surface at the SPIE conference in San Francisco at the end of the month.

The free space display includes advanced automotive use cases such as dynamic turn signals and backup warnings, as well as turning the interior of a car—such as the ceiling—into an interactive projection surface. These visual aids enhance safety by clearly communicating vehicle movements to nearby pedestrians and drivers.

TriLite recently raised its Series A funding to more than €20m with significant investments from two strategic investors including the Corporate Venture Capital Unit of automotive Tier One supplier Continental and an undisclosed global electronics supplier for the Trixel 3 projection display. TriLite is currently working with supplier ams Osram.

“TriLite has developed an outstanding display solution for AR applications and Continental places high value on TriLite’s innovative technology. Beyond consumer applications we see high potential in various automotive applications,” said Jürgen Bilo, Managing Director der Continental Corporate Venture Capital Unit.

SPIE AR | VR | MR will be held from January 27–29, 2025, in San Francisco, California. Dr. Louahab Noui, Principal Optical Architect at TriLite, will deliver a technical presentation titled, “Software-defined laser beam scanner display for high-volume augmented reality applications,” on January 27 at 3:30 PM in Moscone West at the conference.
