Tronics opens MEMS wafer fab in Texas
This appears to have replaced Tronics’ subcontracted facilities with Honeywell in Dallas where Tronics had its own equipment and staff in place for production work and to aid the transfer of MEMS processes. Addison is just north of Dallas and Tronics describes the Honeywell arrangement as being the “previous” facility.
Tronics did not indicate how much has been spent on the Addison facility but said it would provide custom MEMS tailored for healthcare applications such as diagnostic chips, microfluidics, lab-on-chips, and also for making chemical sensors, infrared sensors and optical grating devices for industrial applications.
Tronics now has full control of its manufacturing assets within a leased building of 25,000 square feet with more than 15,000 square feet (approximately 1,400 square meters) of MEMS cleanroom area and support space. The fab can process up to 5,000 wafers per month of 6-inch and 200mm diameter. The facility also provides Tronic’s customers with back-end processing capability.
