In addition to joining SRC’s New Science Team project, TSMC will be participating in the Global Research Collaboration (GRC) program.

The NST project is intended to enable the nanoelectronics roadmap for 2025 and beyond and comprises two subprograms called JUMP (joint university microelectronics program) and nCore (nanoelectronics Computing Research). It is slated to last five years and is looking to raise $300 million to fund it. The NST project that will launch on January 1, 2018.

The GRC is SRC’s core program consisting of 11 research thrusts that as well as focusing on manufacturing priorities such as scaling of semiconductor technologies in logic, memory and analog and sensors branches out into biology, energy-efficient computing and the Internet of Things

The SRC was founded in 1982 as non-profit organization by several United States based chip manufacturers. The SRC is now comprised of companies and universities from around the world that participate in a number of research programs.

The Global Research Collaboration (GRC) program under SRC includes: AMD, Analog Devices, ARM, Globalfoundries, IBM, Intel, Mentor Graphics, Microsoft, Mubadala Technology, NXP Semiconductor, Qualcomm, RTI International, Texas Instruments, Tokyo Electron Ltd. and now TSMC.

The addition of TSMC has been part of a steady shift at SRC to become a global collaboration. TSMC is the fourth non-U.S. headquartered company to join SRC within the last 18 months.
