This compares with sales of NT$212.5 billion (about $6.72 billion) in 3Q15, and represents an increase 22.5 percent. TSMC had forecast it would achieve 3Q16 sales of between NT$254 billion and NT$257 billion.

TSMC’s revenues for September 2016 were approximately NT$89.70 billion (about $2.84 billion), an increase of 39.0 percent from September 2015. Revenues for January through September 2016 totaled NT$685.71 billion (about $21.68 billion), an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the same period in 2015.

This suggests that TSMC is set to enjoy strong sales growth in 2016, in contrast to the overall semiconductor industry, which is expected to turn in a flat year
