TSMC sales soar 44 percent in April
Revenues were approximately NT$81.87 billion (about $2.75 billion), a decrease of 21.0 percent from March 2018 and an increase of 44.0 percent from April 2017. Revenues for January through April 2018 totalled NT$329.95 billion (about $11.1 billion), an increase of 13.5 percent compared to the first four months in 2017.
No reasons were given by TSMC for the strong growth although it has previously spoken about the strength of cryptocurrency mining IC demand at the leading edge of manufacturing capability (see Cryptocurrency mining IC startup now a TSMC top-ten customer?).
Foundry United Microelectronics Corp. (Hsinchu, Taiwan) also enjoyed growth in April with sales revenue at NT$12.41 billion (about $416 million), up 4.1 percent from the April 2017. UMC’s year-to-date sales stand at NT$49.91 billion (about $1.67 billion), up 1.1 percent on the first four months of 2017.
