
TSMC’s Covid-year revenue boomed 25 percent
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (Hsinchu, Taiwan) saw its December sales climb year-on-year by 13.6 percent to NT$117.36 billion (about US$4.19 billion). This was down sequentially by 6.0 percent.
This brought TSMC’s 2020 sales up to NT$1,339 billion (about US$47.8 billion), up 25.2 percent on revenue in 2019. The final quarter was boosted by sales of wafers made for Apple’s iPhone12, according to reports.
December sales at neighbour United Microelectronics Corp. were NT$15.29 billion (about US$545 million), up 14.3 percent year-on-year and up 3.8 percent sequentially.
For the full year UMC fared almost as well as TSMC in terms of growth with annual sales of NT$176.8 billion (about US$6.31 billion), up 19.3 percent on 2019.
