Although TSMC enjoyed October sales that were up 3.8 percent on the previous year, in the previous three months to that TSMC suffered year-on-year sales declines. Revenues for January through November 2017 were NT$887.55 billion (about $29.6 billion), an increase of 2.0 percent compared to the same period in 2016.

Fellow Taiwan-based foundry United Microelectronics Corp. saw its sales fall in November to NT$12.15 billion (about $405 million), down by 5.9 percent compared to November 2016. UMC’s sales for the year to date were NT$138.62 billion (about $4.62 billion) up 2.4 percent on the same period in 2016.
