TSMC’s sales soar in March

Revenue in March at leading foundry TSMC was a third larger than in the same month a year before while at UMC sales increased by 2.7 percent.
TSMC’s revenue in January 2024 was approximately NT$195.21 billion (about US$6.04 billion), an increase of 34.3 percent compared with March 2023. Sequentially sales were up 7.9 percent.
TSMC’s sales for the first quarter were NT$592.64 billion (about US$18.33 billion), which was in the middle of guidance given alongside TSMC’s 4Q23 financial results
No reason was given for the spectacular climb although the company has previously indicated that demand for AI chips is helping maintain demand at for leading-edge manufacturing processes.
Net sales at fellow Taiwanese foundry UMC were approximately NT$18.17 billion (about US$560 million) up 2.7 percent with the year-to-date figure up 0.8 percent.
