TSR claims that its intelliSSL MR16 is the first luminaire that can be controlled wirelessly. It is equipped with an extremely compact driver architecture; the control algorithms run on a JN5168 microcontroller from NXP which is designed for extremely low-power applications. Also integrated in the luminaire is the RF receiver and the antenna. The luminaire can be controlled through apps installed on smartphones running under Apple iOS, Android or Windows. The device runs the WPAN protocol IEEE 802.15.4, but since this protocol only covers the two lowest layers of the OSI stack, the luminaire can be used with a broad spectrum of network software stacks including ZigBee Light Link, ZigBee Home Automation and JenNet IP.

The lamp form factor meets the ANSI specifications (socket GU 5.3, diameter 51 mm, length also 51 mm). The manufacturer targets commercial lighting, architecture lighting and outdoor lighting applications in the first place, but the luminaire can also be used in general lighting applications. "Wireless lighting control is about to become a strategic investment for commercial and residential buildings", said TSR president Mikhail Sagal. "The availability of wirelessly controllable LED lamps creates a host of new use cases and application opportunities for intelligent wireless lighting solutions."

The intelliSSL features a flexible and compact design which allows integrating the wireless LED into almost any type of lighting systems but just as well in safety systems such as motion detection, cameras and automatic blinds controls.

The lamp also is equipped with TSR’s moduLED system which aims at efficient thermal management and avoiding inefficient installation processes. The system is also optimized for better RF performance which translates into greater wireless transmission distances and lower noise.

The wireless LED lamp is on display at the Lightfair International currently taking place in Frankfurt / Main (Germany).
