TTTech Auto expands in China with AD software platform
Vienna-based software provider TTTech Auto, vendor of a safety software for vehicles, is expanding its activities with an own branch office in China.
The new TTTech Auto subsidiary in Shanghai will provide its expertise and the production-proven MotionWise software platform to automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and other partners in the rapidly developing Chinese automotive market.
TTTech Auto is already represented in the Chinese market through its JV Technomous, which is operated in conjunction with SAIC Motor, China’s largest automaker. The current further expansion with an office in Shanghai is part of its growth strategy in light of a $285 million investment from Audi and automotive supplier Aptiv announced earlier this year.
“Asia is one of the most important growth regions,” says Friedhelm Pickhard, chief growth officer at TTTech Auto. “Chinese automakers in particular are very ambitious to drive the development of automated vehicle features. With our MotionWise vehicle software platform, we offer the production-proven core building block to develop the necessary software-defined car – safely from the start.”
The safety of increasingly highly automated driver assistance systems (ADAS) will have a direct impact on end-user adoption, believes Pickhard. With this latest investment, TTTech Auto aims to expand its product portfolio and service to customers in the automotive value chain.
TTTech Auto’s flagship product, MotionWise, ensures that mission-critical data circulates reliably and in real-time throughout the vehicle. It guarantees safe execution in the system, prioritizes safety-critical functions and ensures that the car responds in a timely manner. In addition, specialized tools enable automakers to dramatically accelerate the software development process, from concept to volume production, including post-sale feature updates over the air interface.
Tech-savvy Generation Z buyers in the crosshairs
“From our Shanghai office, we will provide our expertise and technology and work closely with Chinese automakers to ensure the system safety of upcoming vehicle generations and shorten their software development time,” said Yang Ouyang, General Manager China at TTTech Auto. “This saves our customers a lot of resources and, more importantly, a lot of time they would otherwise spend on technology development and constant safety adjustments.”
Software has become a key competitive advantage for automotive companies around the world, including China. According to Deloitte’s China Industry Outlook 2022, the tech-savvy Generation Z will soon replace Millennials and form the largest group of car buyers in China. They prefer experience and customer satisfaction through smart features over price. In this context, autonomous driving functions and probably also the underlying safety technology will soon no longer be a key differentiator for new cars, but a must for future smart, software-based vehicles.
