Two-inch Super AMOLED display fits Samsung smartwatch plans
The Gear S smartwatch, which features 3G connectivity to allow users to make and receive phone calls without a smartphone, was launched on the same day that LG revealed the company’s new Android Wear device, the LG G Watch R featuring a stylish circular 1.3-inch P-OLED display.
The Samsung Gear S offers mobile data without the need for a smartphone connected via Bluetooth, as the company’s existing smartwatches currently require.
The Gear S enables notifications from social networks like Facebook and Twitter, calendars and applications, even when a user is not near their phone. SMS messages can be received and replied to using the onscreen keyboard or voice recognition software. Users can make and receive calls directly from your wrist, as well as getting calls forwarded from your smartphone.
The Gear S 360 x 480 pixel AMOLED display is manufactured using the same techniques utilized by Samsung’s Tab S tablets and is capable of showing customisable screens.
The Gear S will be available worldwide from October 2014.
The LG G Watch R will be available in the fourth quarter of 2014.
