Uber allies in Europe with Renault and Nissan

Renault and Nissan, who have been working together for some time on their model policy, now want to include a third party in their alliance: Together with Uber, the Franco-Japanese alliance wants to expand its range of services in the field of emission-free mobility. According to a joint declaration of intent, the Uber app will in future also make it possible to book trips with the cooperation partners’ affordable e-cars. The new function is to be introduced in France, the Netherlands, Portugal and Great Britain.

The memorandum of understanding between the companies is part of Uber’s announcement to develop zero-emission mobility into a key element of its platform. By 2025, 50 percent of the kilometers completed via Uber in seven European capitals (Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Lisbon, London, Madrid and Paris) are to be covered in electric vehicles. Customers in these cities, which account for around 80 percent of Uber’s European business, will be able to choose an electric car for their journey by the end of 2021.

The companies are now investigating how this cooperation can accelerate the introduction of electric vehicles: The Uber app gives partner drivers access to electric vehicles such as the Renault Zoe and the Nissan Leaf, as well as future new e-models from both companies. An extension of the UK pilot – where Uber and Nissan are already working together – to France is planned by the end of 2020, followed by the Netherlands, Portugal and other markets. The partners are also planning joint marketing and training activities to introduce Uber partner drivers to the offers and advantages of electric vehicles. This includes test drives so that they can get to know the cars.
