To meet the high demands on safety and quality, radar sensors must be able to detect their surroundings reliably and in great detail. For use on the road, the aim is to implement robust measures that minimize interference and spurious signals. For this purpose Uhnder has developed a digital radar-on-chip (RoC) which uses a combination of CMOS and Digital Code Modulation (DCM) technology. Uhnder’s digitally modulated 4D radar integrates 192 virtual channels on a single chip. In addition, it provides high contrast resolution (HCR) and a significantly improved range and angle resolution, so that the size of the object can be determined much more accurately on the basis of the reflected beam. Uhnder uses the dSpace Automotive Radar Test Systems (DARTS) to subject sensors whose signals are processed according to this modulation method to the most realistic tests possible during the development phase until series production is released.
“Digitally modulated radar signals offer considerable advantages in ADAS and AD applications. The dSpace radar test systems made it easy for us to investigate interference between radar systems and to develop our systems realistically,” says Ralf Reuter, Senior Director of Customer and Application Engineering at Uhnder, about the initial results of the collaboration.
The first joint showcases will be presented at the “International Conference on Microwave Intelligent Mobility 2020” in Linz (July 2020) and at the “European Microwave Week 2020” in Utrecht (September 13-18, 2020).
