UMS was created in 1996 as an independent joint venture between Thales and EADS Deutschland GmbH to provide a European source of III-V technologies and products. With production facilities located at Ulm in Germany and Villebon/Yvette in France, UMS offers a broad range of standard MMICs, along with an open foundry service for customers’ own designs.

Stuart Hendry, Link Microtek’s Sales Director, comments: “This is an important addition to our portfolio as it will give customers access to leading-edge MMIC technology without any ITAR restrictions. As well as offering a comprehensive range of GaAs MMICs for applications up to 110 GHz, UMS also provides the only GaN foundry service in Europe, which will be of particular interest to designers of high-power systems.”

The UMS range of standard MMICs encompasses products such as power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, attenuators, up- and down-converters, mixers, multipliers, dividers, oscillators and phase shifters, together with chipset solutions tailored to the requirements of the defence, space, automotive and telecoms sectors.

Vincent Hirtzberger, UMS’s Business Development Manager Europe, said: “In Link Microtek we have found an organisation with a genuine understanding of our key markets, backed by a real depth of technical competence, and we are pleased to be working in partnership with them in the UK and Ireland.”
