Up to 40A SoC power from 187 mm² footprint
The EM21xx family of fully digital PowerSoC DC-DC step down converters have a 6.76 mm profile and Intel quotes a “solution size” of 360 mm². All accept 4.5 to 16V inputs and deliver, respectively, 0.7 to 5V; 0.7 to 3.6V; or 0.7 to 1.325V output. The converters re PMBus v1.2 compliant and fully programmble/configurable, and scalable. They report VIN, VOUT, IOUT, Temperature and provide system health monitoring. Reduced bulk capacitance allows a more compact, reliable, and cost-effective design; high efficiency effective thermal design with no thermal de-rating eliminates the need to oversize a power supply or use heat sinking.
Specifications include <0.5% accuracy and <1% ripple, exceeding FPGA static power requirements; their <3% transient deviation exceeds FPGA dynamic power requirements; and they are completely characterised as a solution with Intel FPGA systems. They come pre-loaded with configurations that allow the benefits of digital power to be accessed without applying a fully-digital design. The Enpirion Digital Power Configurator graphical user interface tool enables designers to program, test, and customize any Enpirion digital PowerSoC
