US MEMS foundry for sale
The identity and location of the MEMS foundry were not disclosed by MEMS Journal Inc., which is brokering the deal. However, the company is described as being one of the most well-established MEMS foundry businesses in the US and has had more than 60 customers during its history.
It is the second such deal of the year. In April 2017 STC-MEMS a fab for processing 150mm-diameter wafers at Albany, New York, was acquired by Akoustis Technologies Inc. (Charlotte, North Carolina) for $2.75 million.
The latest MEMS foundry to go on the block is fully operational and has been running both MEMS volume production and R&D projects.
Manufacturing capabilities include, pressure sensors, thermopiles, RTDs, mass air flow sensors, gas detection sensors, RF energy sensors, optical couplers, microphones, MEMS on CMOS devices, graphene transistors, custom accelerometers, AFM probe tips, and micro-mirrors. The company possesses proprietary process IP and know-how and has a forward order book and is said to be in a “great location.”
“For the right type of buyer, this is a great opportunity to instantly launch your MEMS foundry contract manufacturing business in the United States. Or, alternatively, this is a rapid way for an IDM to set up a dedicated fabrication or R&D facility for your MEMS products,” said MEMS Journal in an email communication.
