UWB IC enables car access via smartphone
The NXP NCJ29D5 is the first of a new generation of UWB ICs that have been developed specifically for the global automotive industry. The technology will allow true secure hands-free smart access for automobiles by providing smartphone-based car access at the same level of convenience as key fobs. It will allow users to open and start cars, with their phones in their pockets or bags, and enjoy secure remote parking via smartphone. Furthermore, the new UWB IC brings the maximum level of protection against car theft through relay attacks.
BMW Group, Continental and others are currently working on UWB implementations through the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) and IEEE to integrate applications between vehicles, mobiles, and consumer devices. The standardisation efforts will develop a global standard for hands-free smart access and other automotive localization.
