Vcore DC/DC controller allows CPU to move into sleep mode with no latency
The ISL95831 is based on Intersil’s Robust Ripple Regulator (R3) technology, a hybrid of fixed-frequency PWM control and variable-frequency hysteretic control that delivers the industry’s fastest transient response. The R3 modulator delivers faster transient settling time than typical modulators and automatically adapts switching frequency to optimize light load efficiency.
The Intersil solution, unlike competitive devices, allows the CPU to enter into and out of sleep mode frequently without accumulating performance latency, which can slow system performance. By avoiding this latency, the ISL95831 ensures the CPU is able to achieve maximum performance.
The ISL95831 accepts input voltages from 4.5 V to 25 V and delivers output voltages from 0.25 V to 1.5 V. Both of the device’s dual outputs support inductor DC resistance (DCR) current sensing with a single negative temperature coefficient thermistor for DCR temperature compensation. Both outputs support remote voltage sensing, programmable VBOOT voltage, programmable IMAX, TMAX, adjustable switching frequency, OC protection and separate Power Good outputs. The device features a serial data bus along with dual outputs, configurable for 3-, 2- or 1-phase for the first output, and 1-phase for the second output, using an integrated gate driver.
The ISL95831 is available now in a 6 mm x 6 mm 48-pin TQFN package and is priced at $3.68 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
