Vicor adds ChiP-based DCM DC/DC modules at 75.9 W/cm3 power density
Vicor’s new ChiP (“converter house in package”) DCMs enable power engineers to conserve board space. ChiP DCMs can be used for a wide range of applications requiring high power density and thermal management flexibility. The series spans DC-DC conversion requirements from 12V to 420V input and 12V to 55V output. Coupled with FPA and ZVS regulators, these power components enable dense, efficient and scalable source-to-load power system solutions.
This announcement features two pre-configured ChiP DCMs. The first is a 4623 (46×23 mm) 600W ChiP DCM, with nominal 290 Vin and 13.8 Vout for applications such as HV Li-Ion battery to 12V systems. Primarily, this to provide a “12V” rail for equipment and systems power in an electrive vehicle or hybrid. A family of regulators will follow this first part: Vicor says that the result can be up to four times the power density of alterantive solutions.
The second is a 3623 (36×23 mm) 320W ChiP DCM with 16-50 Vin range and nominal 28 Vout, optimised for 28V MIL-COTS systems. This device is specified over a wide inputnrange and also over a wide temperature range, down to -55C. Efficiency does not derate significantly over the range, Vicor says ChiP DCMs provide up to 75.9 W/cm3 power density and 93% efficiency, with parallel array capability of up to eight units.
600W ChiP DCM pricing, for the EV/HEV market, is from $130 (1000).
