The trend was evident with companies throughout the tech space, says the firm, as they introduced connected home devices and announced new partnerships at the show. This was in response to consumers who seem increasingly comfortable with voice assistants and who have been buying smart speakers in increasing numbers.

Some of the more significant related announcements at the show, says the firm, include Alexa support being added to the smart home camera products of Canary, the increased support for voice assistants in Whirlpool appliances, and security cameras from D-Link that can integrate with Alexa and Google Assistant.

This comes after successful holiday sales for Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Home and Home Mini speakers, of which more than 7 million were sold. According to the report, it expects Amazon’s new Echo Show – with its “combination of usefulness and excitement” – to be the big winner with its mass-market appeal.

Apple’s HomePod is also expected to do well in the smart speaker market, but not dominate the space. Looking ahead, the firm predicts a rapidly evolving market over the next few years, with the emergence of a variety of more focused products, more devices featuring displays, and the voice assistant “moving beyond the smart speaker.”
