Volkswagen lures digitisation strategy manager away from Apple

Since November 1st, Johann Jungwirth is leading Volkswagen’s new digitisation strategy department, reporting directly to the new CEO Matthias Müller. Before joining VW, Jungwirth was working since 2014 as a Director in Apple’s Special Projects Group as well as in the company’s Mac development in Cupertino, California. There he held responsibilities for technology and design innovation, product development and recruiting.

2009, Jungwirth has been appointed President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America where he led Daimler’s Sunnyvale-based R&D centre. Jungwirth oversaw developments related to autonomous driving, electric and conventional powertrain as well as telematics services and user interaction design. From 2008 to 2013 he also was vice president for infotainment and telematics in Mercedes-Benz North AmericaÄs infotainment and connected car solutions development.
