The battery systems for the e-up, Volkswagen’s first electric car to be produced in serial, are manufactured in a new hall – hall 23 – on VW’s campus in Braunschweig. For the start, production capacity is 11.000 systems per year. About 40 employees are working at the production. Another 150 jobs have been created in the design and development of drives for battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
The company plans to manufacture these components in Braunschweig also for other Volkswagen vehicles such as the Golf. Other mechatronic components manufactured in Braunschweig for the new e-up are the electric steering system and the brake which also is powered electrically.
