Volkswagen supports e-mobility with charger offering
The Volks-Charger offers a capacity of up to 11 kW and charges about five times as fast as a normal household socket. A vehicle with a 58 kWh battery (such as the ID.3) can be fully charged in around six hours.
Volkswagen will issue the ID. Charger in three versions, which differ mainly in their digital functions.
The Basic version is characterised by simple operation and a permanently connected type 2 charging cable. In addition, the charger has integrated DC residual current protection. The “Connect” version has additional digital communication capabilities: It can be connected to the home network and the smartphone via WiFi or LAN. As an additional option, connection via mobile radio (LTE) is also possible. Users can use these connections to find out about usage and charging processes and control them via a smartphone app. Other features include remote maintenance, access control via charging card and regular software updates.
The ID. Charger Pro is the top model of the series and, in addition to the digital functions and standard LTE module, also has an integrated electricity meter for kilowatt-hour billing. It thus simplifies, for example, the billing between company car driver and employer. This version also includes the LTE data costs for the service life.
In addition to the wall boxes, Volkswagen offers a charging service called We Charge, which gives drivers of VW electric cars access to more than 100,000 public charging points throughout Europe.
