Webasto, Samsung SDI join forces for battery production
According to an agreement signed by both companies, the development will be based on a battery module provided by Samsung SDI which will be adapted and optimized for the use as Webasto standard battery system. In terms of technology, the battery module is based on prismatic lithium-ion battery cells which combine high energy density with efficient use of space. Webasto will integrate these modules into its battery packs which in turn can be configured as battery systems of variable size. This approach enables individual optimized solutions according to the respective requirement of the commercial vehicle manufacturer.
Webasto intends to strategically expand its product portfolio, not only with battery systems, but also with charging solutions for private and commercial customers. At the same time, the core business is to be strengthened and new business areas are to be developed.
