This trend became visible again at the Light + Building trade fair in Frankfurt (Germany), the world’s largest event of this kind with almost 200.000 visitors and 2350 exhibitors. Market researchers expect solid-state illuminants will account for about two third the lighting market by 2020; while in 2010 they represented just 16 percent. In specific application segments, the market share is significantly higher. “In new building projects, architects already tell us that they see a market share of up to 100 percent for LED lighting,” explained Alexander Romanschtschak, Product Manager Lighting Systems for

Toshiba Europe. Pricing levels continue to decline; the payback period for LED Lighting investments is currently about two years and shrinking, Romanschtschak says.
