The module allows full-featured connectivity for embedded devices, without the need to develop any WiFi drivers or porting. It can also serve as an independent WiFi access point where a WiFi infrastructure doesn’t already exist. With the module acting as an access point, equipment can then be controlled using WiFi-enabled smart phones or other devices.

Security is ensured through encryption algorithms (WPA/WPA2 in both PSK and Enterprise modes), as well as including internet SSL communication and encryption algorithms. When operating as a router, it also includes firewall features. The module, which measures 2.0cm X 3.7cm, can support ten simultaneous TCP/UDP sockets, two listening TCP sockets, SMTP, MIME, POP3, FTP, Telnet and HTTP/HTTPS clients, as well as an HTTP/HTTPS embedded web server with a web site for the host application and one for configuring the module.
