Winners of Pi Chef Design Challenge announced

One of five challenges run by element14 every year, 18 members of the community took part. The judges selected a grand prize, runner-up, and 3rd prize:

The grand prize was won by James O’Gorman from the USA who designed a smart range hood – a 40-inch range hood with extractor fan, video, heat sensors, air quality sensor and app using NodeRed, MQTT and Open Hab. O’Gorman won a Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine and a US $1,500 Farnell element14 shopping cart.

The runner-up was also from the US. Jonathan Schooler developed the cooker connection, which is a smart smoker and grill with a custom app, temperature logging and vents. Schooler won a Whynter Ice-Cream Maker and US $750 shopping cart.

Third place went to Indian developer Avner Fernandes for the Bake Mate baking assistant which can weigh ingredients tells you how much of each you will need. Fernandes won a Breville Tea Maker and a US $500 shopping cart.

12 finishers also received a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and GraspIO Cloudio development kit.
