"We expect important architectural decisions to be made by service providers as the packet core market grows. Network Function Virtualization (NFV) innovations of the evolved packet core product lines by many vendors have emerged that may impact future capital spending plans by operators," said Chris DePuy, Vice President at Dell’Oro Group. "This software-based product development is intended to allow operators to deliver new services to customers in a shorter amount of time, and may also lead to lower deployment prices."
During the forecast period, Dell’Oro Group expects new vendors to enter the Wireless Packet Core market, leveraging their strengths in adjacent markets. The PCRF market is expected to approach $900 million in 2017. Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Cisco, Huawei and Nokia Siemens Networks are seen benefiting in the market overall.
