WSTS has issued a note saying that it now expects the global market for semiconductors in 2019 will be worth US$409 billion, a decrease of 12.8 percent from 2018. The global market in 2020 will grow by 5.9 percent, WSTS said.

These figures are up from the 13.3 percent drop in 2019 followed by growth of 4.8 percent in 2020 that were forecast by WSTS in September (see WSTS trims chip market forecast…again).

The market contraction in 2019 reflects decreases across all geographies and almost all major product categories including the memory market down by 33 percent, analog circuits down by 7.9 percent and logic down 4.3 percent. For 2020, all regions are forecasted to grow with optoelectronics contributing the highest growth followed by logic.

WSTS’ estimated chip market growth for 2021 is 6.3 percent.
