X-Fab has wafer fabs in Germany, Malaysia, France and the US and was previously an owner of the Plessey Semiconductors Ltd. wafer fab in Plymouth. It was bought back from X-Fab in 2010.

Initially seven engineers will be moving to Plymouth to begin performing R&D for X-Fab.

Xuezhou Cao, one of the seven engineers moving to Plymouth Science Park, said: “We are looking forward to joining the thriving community of ambitious businesses already based at Plymouth Science Park and to continue to innovate and grow our business across the globe.”

X-Fab serves more than 350 customers around the globe supporting them from developing the concept of a new semiconductor device through to prototyping and mass production.

Plymouth Science Park is home to about 90 companies including: Synopsys by way of its acquisition of Moortec Ltd. in 2020 (see Synopsys buys Moortec to take on Mentor) and Ultra-Semi Ltd., which provides contract technical services to semiconductor manufacturers and fabless semiconductor companies.
