The move builds on Xaar’s recent rebrand and launch of its ImagineX platform under a new management team with a focus on the development of inkjet technology for printing and manufacturing applications worldwide.

Located on the Cambridge Research Park, in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, the HQ includes a purpose-built R&D laboratory and is geared to flexible working post-Covid.

The Waterbeach headquarters contains most of the corporate functions, allowing the current Huntingdon manufacturing facility to focus on innovation, client collaboration and developing new market opportunities.

“We are proud of our heritage in Cambridgeshire and our new offices will provide the best working environment to help us continue to drive the global development of industrial inkjet technology use worldwide,” said John Mills, chairman of Xaar.

The company was founded in  1990 to commercialise the work done at Cambridge Consultants (now Cap Gemini) on piezoelectric Drop-on-Demand technology and signed its first commercial agreement in 1991 with Brother Industries who licensed the technology to develop home office printers and fax machines. The first  printheads were manufactured in Järfälla, Sweden, and in 2007, Xaar opened its Huntingdon factory.

Earlier this month the company bought a system integration company to help its move to developing printing systems.
