Xilinx forms university adaptive compute research clusters
The XACCs will offer critical infrastructure and funding that is intended to support new research in adaptive compute acceleration for high performance computing (HPC). The research will have a broad focus to encompass systems, architecture, tools and applications. XACCs will be equipped with the latest Xilinx hardware and software for adaptive compute acceleration. Each cluster will be configured to allow state-of-the-art HPC research.
The first XACC is installed at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. Others will follow at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC). The last cluster will be setup at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The XACCs will feature high-end servers, Xilinx Alveo accelerator cards and high speed networking. Each Alveo card features two connections to a 100Gbps network switch for research into arbitrary network topologies for distributed computing. All four XACCs are planned to be operational within the next three months. Xilinx 7nm Versal Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP) technology will be incorporated in a future deployment.
