Yangtze makes 32-layer NAND flash
The development was expected (see Chinese 3D-NAND flash coming this year?) and although it still leaves China behind the leading-edge of NAND flash technology it is still a major breakthrough.
It was predicted a year ago that YMTC would move on as quickly as possible to a 64-layer memory where it would have a chance of selling against products from established players such as Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron and Toshiba.
YMTC has put its 32-layer chips into designs of solid-state drive (SSD) and completed testing of chips in handsets in the first half of November, Digitimes said referencing unnamed sources.
Trial production is scheduled for 2Q18
