Zettler celebrates 140 years in power
The company was founded in 1877 in Munich as a mechanical workshop and is now a global network of companies with a broad range of its own and distributed products.
During the early years of electrical engineering, Alois Zettler is one of the first to manufacture products such as Ruhmkorff induction coils, electrostatic and induction generators, controllers, electrical communication systems, and even bell-based hearing phones. Among the numerous patents are the first electric cash register lock, a remote thermometer, and fire alarms. The underlying principle of the nurse call button – an electro-optical reporting system – is still in use today in hospitals and nursing homes.
Beginning around 1900, electromechanical relays became one of the company’s most important products. In 1960 hermetically encapsulated and comb-actuated relays make up 60% of the company’s revenues. Following the successful launch of Zettler relays on the US market, American Zettler was established, and the hybrid relay that combines the advantages of electromechanical and electronic switching technologies entered the market in 1970. It was followed by memory relays and types with multiple switch contacts.
Since 2003, the company has been operating in Germany under the name Zettler Electronics, and is part of the global business network of the Zettler Group. As a manufacturer of relays, LCDs, TFTs, switching power supplies, transformers and current sensors, its products are used in industrial electronics to white goods, renewable energy, communication and medical technology.
The company combines the development of its own products with the distribution of components from other manufacturers. For critical applications, the technical department assists with product engineers and specific measuring devices and test equipment to select the right components.
“We are very proud of our long tradition in such a dynamic industry as the electronics industry,” said Alexander Stöckel, Product Management Electromechanical Components at ZETTLER electronics. “A lot has changed over the past 140 years at ZETTLER. However, our first-class services and our comprehensive product range have remained.!
