The goal of the partnership that has been declared as “long-term” is developing an all-new powertrain for the 5th racing season in 2018 that includes the electric motor including power electronics as well as a transmission box. This powertrain will meet the new FIA technical requirements that will allow only one vehicle per driver and race – changing the car during the race will no longer be allowed.

The fourth racing season will start in October. Right from the start, Venturi’s cars will be equipped with purpose-designed high-performance shock absorbers from ZF Race Engineering. Both partners plan to expand their cooperation to other technology areas. Venturis is particularly interested in ZF’s expertise in developing a new electric powertrain. But also ZF hopes to benefit from the racing technology. “For us, the partnership with Venturi is an incubator for new technologies that eventually will find their way into series vehicles for normal streets”, said ZF CEO Stefan Sommer.

Earlier this year, ZF has bundled its activities related to the electrification of cars and commercial vehicles in a dedicated division. Two years ago, ZF competitor Schaeffler AG also committed to Formula E racing to gather experience with this technology.
