Delta in Taiwan has teamed up with Microsoft and the Consortium for On Board Optics (COBO) on a proof of concept (POC) open networking switch that provides 12.8Tbit/s and integrates five different optical module form factors in a single 4U rack.
The 4U rack supports 16 ports of 50Gbit/s links, including eight ports of the latest COBO standard, with up to 30 percent energy savings for data centres. The system also includes two 400G QSFP-DD, two 400G OSFP and sixty four 100G QSFP ports. Intel’s 8-core 2.0 GHz D-1548 Broadwell high-performance chip sits at the core of the Delta COBO switch.

The collaboration follows a joint 5G smart manufacturing solution launched in June.
