Panasonic Industry has launched a connector that cuts the board space by half for wearable designs.
The R35K connector has 4 or 6 pins designed symmetrically that can be tracked from one side, simplifying circuit pattern layout. It supports 30V, 3A at the power connection and 0.3A at the signal terminal with a 150V withstand voltage in the 1.3mm x 2.94mm footprint.
The connector is aimed at smartwatches, headphones, hearing aid and portable health care devices.
"Although the R35K has a mating height of just 0.6 mm and a width of 1.3mm, Panasonic's Tough Contact system could also be employed here without any compromise. This means that the connectors are structurally capable of effectively absorbing shocks and vibrations. So they reliably withstand everything that can happen to a wearable in daily use," said Carsten Wieber at Panasonic Industry Europe in Ottobrunn, Germany.
- Wearable connectors feature 360º mating
- Vertical mount USB Type-C plug supports docking designs
