Having already manufactured one million of automotive radar sensors, Bosch expects that the significance of the radar technology for automotive safety and intelligent driver assistance systems will significantly increase in the years ahead. Demand will be driven among other factors by stricter criteria for the Euro NCAP safety assessments.
comparison to the 24GHz range, 77GHz sensors offer much better performance, said Bernhard Lucas, head of Bosch's radar sensor development department. The object resolution is up to three times higher, and speed as well as distance measurements are three to five times more precise. In addition, the 77GHz is reserved for automotive applications globally which makes this technology suitable for vehicle platforms sold worldwide, Lucas said.
