China grew share of fabless chip market in 2019
China was the big winner in supplying the global semiconductor market in 2019 and South Korea and Japan were the big losers, according to IC Insights.

When measured by headquarters location, China expanded sales by 10 percent and was the only region to achieve sales growth. Although China had less than 1 percent share of the integrated device manufacturer (IDM) market in the fabless sector it stood at 15 percent of the global market, close behind Taiwan's 17 percent market share.

China's overall IC supply share in 2019 was 5 percent, just behind Europe, Taiwan and Japan at 7, 6 and 6 percent respectively

In terms of growth/decline Europe and Taiwan managed to do better than the global average in 2019 with minor falls of 2 percent and 3 percent respectively. The US region fell back by 9 percent but again beat the average.

But despite this decline in absolute sales the US continues as the dominant supplier of ICs to the world. The US captured 55 percent of the worldwide IC market in 2019 with 51 percent of the IDM market and 65 percent of the fabless chip market.
