Chip market crawled forward in October
The global chip market continues to pull itself slowly out of a 2019 slump but this left averaged chip sales for October still 13.1 percent behind the same period a year before, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association.

The three-month average of worldwide sales of chips in October 2019 was $36.6 billion, down 13.1 percent from October 2018 but up 2.9 percent from September 2019. This was the fourth consecutive rise in sequential sales numbers.

However, on an annual basis sales were down across all regions compared to October 2018: Europe (-7.3 percent), Asia Pacific/All Other (-7.4 percent), Japan (-9.3 percent), China (-10.2 percent), and the Americas (-27.1 percent).

"Global sales are projected to decrease by double digits in 2019, then rebound with moderate growth expected in 2020 and 2021," said John Neuffer, CEO of SIA, in a statement. In 2020 and 2021, global sales are expected to increase by 5.9 percent and 6.3 percent, respectively.
