Cloud service to connect urban traffic
The bigger the urban agglomeration, the bigger the challenge. Traffic congestion and the search for a parking lot can be quite annoying to the user, plus they cause environmental pollution and consume time and money. For this reason, urban traffic planners and carmakers alike are searching for ways to increase the mobility in cities without building new, expensive roads and railroad tracks. Intermodal travelling therefore has become a much-discussed topic lately. However, organising such intermodal mobility hitherto came to grief thanks to its complexity.
This is where Siemens plans to attack: In an integrated mobility platform, data from diverse mobility providers are aggregated, homogenised and offered for access in a uniform format. The platform collects customers inquires and assumes the billing for all providers connected. In order to protect privacy relevant data, information that identifies person and route are combined only at the time of calculating the bill.
In a pilot project, Siemens has launched such an integrated mobility platform for Berlin and its surroundings. The implementation as a cloud-based service offers the advantage that the processing power is widely independent from the computing power demand; during rush hours it is possible to quickly add more computing resources.
